This a guide designed by 8th grade students to help understand the challenges faced by those who used the Underground Railroad as a means of escaping slavery in America.
The purpose of this book is to help you readers understand how to protect oneself from these hazards. Learn how to start a fire, build a shelter, catch a fish with your bare hands, identify snakes, and even how to bake bread with minimal supplies. Being prepared for whatever may come your way is something survival experts can’t stress enough, something we can’t stress enough.
Our eighth grade class wrote this book to understand the fugitive slave experience and how they dealt with their problems like survival pro’s. We have illustrations on many articles, so you will have some visual aid with your instructions. We have tested these instructions ourselves and hope this guide will help you understand the dangers of the Underground Railroad. But be warned, we are eighth graders so there may be some errors.

Important to me to read all I can find about that time in history.G-G-G-G-G-G-G Prue was one brave gal
I only know bits about her after I swore to keep the 'secret'
Her husband Charles and she built an abolitionist church on their property
She had a house full of cats,
she was a quilter, when she would rock in her chair the run-a-ways in the cold cellar knew to be extremely quiet
she lived on land that President Van Buren granted Charles for his service in the war of 1812
In southern Indiana still was dangerous, though the slaves were almost to Canada.
Prue and Charles had 6 sons all were serving in the civil war.
Four survived
