What I know about wines I could write on the top of a wine cork. So when I saw this book I thought great maybe now I'll learn something. The book is informative, funny and most of all down to earth. This book is not for the wine connoisseur they would probably poo poo this book. This is for the everyday woman who would like to broaden her knowledge of wines and not look like a total incompetent when ordering wine when out with friends. They give you tips when ordering wine like I didn't know that the second wine from the bottom of the wine list is the one that is marked up the most at a restaurant because people don't want to appear cheap so they go for the second from the bottom of the cheapest wine. The best value is the mid range wine. Good to know. I totally recommend this book.Product details

Good book for a wine beginner like me. With the learned knowledge, now I can go through the wine shelves and understand a lot of the labels and wine names. Really useful information.
As someone who is just starting to get to know wines I found this book to be quite helpful, and the next time I'm going wine shopping I am going to be referencing it.
Lots of details, and lists of what to order, explanation of terms, good samplings of tastes for all classes of wines. As a winedrinker for years, I had not heard of the 20 minute rule for serving red or whits at the right temperature. Good for those of us who like it, but don't obsess over it. In the very fine wines in a restaurant, who can afford to drink them anyway, except on a customer expense account? in which case you're ripping off your employer!
